In this second episode of Behind the Decks, we sit down with Maytae and Tulwai to explore the story behind Beatforest, delve into their environmental commitments, and discuss the evolving music scene. Their lineup for the 2025 addition includes DJ Tool, D Dan and Jako Jako.
Launched in 2024, Beatforest returns in January 2025 for its second edition. The festival takes place on a reclaimed tamarind farm, once deforested but now the focal point of an ambitious regeneration project. "The festival is about regeneration," says Maytae. "It’s about breathing life back into the land and connecting people to nature through music."
Environmental sustainability is at the heart of Beatforest. As part of the festival, hundreds of trees will be planted to restore the landscape. Tulwai emphasizes the importance of action: "Running parties emits a large amount of carbon, so finding ways to reduce this impact is the most important thing we can do for the environment."
Through music, nature, and sustainability, Beatforest is proving that festivals can foster meaningful change.
